Abstract
Phillip Clay recalls his family background and his early childhood in Wilmington, North Carolina. Phillip Clay recounts his school life, from his elementary school years to his experiences as an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Phillip Clay recalls his student activities at the University of North at Chapel Hill, including his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. He recounts his graduate and doctoral education at MIT and his 15-month tour of duty in Vietnam. He also briefly discusses his family life. Phillip Clay discusses his career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as his involvement in several housing and urban affairs organizations. He concludes the interview by reflecting on his life and career. Phillip Clay shares his hopes and concerns for the future of the black community.
