Abstract
Former seminary classmate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Marcus Garvey Wood describes his family background and upbringing in the tidewater region of Virginia. He notes his geneological background, which includes slaves and slaveowners. Minister Marcus Garvey Wood details his hardscrabble existance in Gloucester, Virginia. He describes the pernicious effects of racism, color-consiousness and discrimination in education and job opportunities. Former seminary classmate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rev. Marcus Garvey details their years at Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. Of particular note, Wood describes King's relationship with the daughter of the school's German cook and the great approbation the interracial relationship brought upon him. Wood also discusses his financial struggles while at seminary. Former seminary classmate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rev. Marcus Garvey Wood, describes his dissapointment by the lack of interest of today's youth in the legacy of Dr. King. He also discusses his 1998 book "And Grace Shall Lead You There".
