Barbara McGeary has been a positive force in Harrisburg's educational and arts communities. She and husband Clyde moved to Harrisburg in 1964 for his job with the Department of Education. With her own kids in school, Barbara started teaching art in the Harrisburg School District. Opposition to desegregation left a school building empty, which set the stage for Barbara's energy and ideas to fuel an arts program. It began with fifth and sixth graders, but blossomed into the Harrisburg Arts Magnet School in 1980. Barbara's life is a love story of art in Harrisburg and throughout Central Pennsylvania.
