Harold Wiles was born at the original Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, back when the horse-drawn bread wagon, ice cream wagon and milk wagon canvassed the neighborhoods on a daily basis. At a time when cars were rare, Wiles used to walk everywhere or take the trolley for only seven cents. During World War IIWiles began working for the United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania in 1937, where he stayed until retiring 40 years later. He still owns one of the first pay phones.
