Marlin Toser's Lithuanian parents ran a small grocery store at Fourth and Hamilton streets for 35 years. As a teenager in the 1950s, he remembers kids gathering at local hot spots that are still standing today - the Alva Hotel & Restaurant and Pep Grill. After William Penn High School, Toser went into the service before starting work at the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot. Known as Harrisburg's sports fanatic, he clearly recalls the Thanksgiving Day games between William Penn and John Harris High Schools. Toser was also a fan of the 1950s Harrisburg Senators, a team with many players who went on to the major leagues. After retirement, he and his wife started Non-Sport Update, a magazine for collectors of non-sport trading cards.
