Born and raised in Harrisburg, the Honorable Linda D. Thompson is a product of the Harrisburg School District. Upon graduating from Howard University, she returned home and became involved in her community. After a stint with the Urban League, she founded the non-profit organization Loveship Incorporated. She was elected to Harrisburg City Council in 2001 and became its president in 2008. In 2009, she was elected Harrisburg's mayor, becoming the first woman and the first African-American to hold the office. "...they had a lot of facilities in Harrisburg back then for kids to keep them headed on the right path, and I benefited from those facilities."
