Connecticut-born Harold McInnes began his career with AMP Incorporated in 1965, eventually becoming its CEO. After his retirement in 1992, he added support for the arts to his involvement with the United Way and Harrisburg Hospital. He was a member of the mayor's task force that led to the opening of Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. "We [AMP Incorporated] brought over the years people in from all over the place to Harrisburg and we felt that the quality of living here was really quite important and that things like the Whitaker Center would enable us to compete reasonably with other regions."
