Betty Lou grew up on 12th Street in a small mixed neighborhood of homes and stores in Harrisburg during the 1940s.Her father was in the armed services. Betty Lou's family has been involved in First Church of God on 4th Street where her grandmother's great-great grandmother was buried in the 1850s. The church sponsors the Via Colori every September when local artists and draw pictures on the street with chalk. Betty Lou works as a volunteer for the Downtown Improvement District Visitor's Center. She keeps it decorated, welcomes people who drop in and tell them what's going on in the city.
