Char Magaro journeyed to the Harrisburg area with husband, Brian, from Philadelphia in 1974. They began selling produce from Brian's father's Enola farm. They later expanded the product by branching out to the Broad Street Market and offering catering. Magaro's Deli on Third Street opened in 1981, marking the beginning of that area's revitalization. In the late 1980s, Char became involved with environmental issues, which led her to organize four Earth Day celebrations at Harrisburg parks. She was editor of City Beat magazine from 1996-1999 and then opened Char's Bella Mundo restaurant in Shipoke in 2002. She also designs jewelry and is a board member of Penn Future. She has demonstrated to the fullest her own personal philosophy: "I feel that if you can envision something, you can do it."
